About frogs
frogs is a slow, seasonal floral design studio working with grown-not-flown flowers. We're all about working with the seasons and with Mother Nature to create little samples of our beautiful great outdoors to brighten up our indoor spaces. We want to help our customers and followers reconnect with nature and create beautiful reminders to stop you in your tracks. Our arrangements are pretty lil' brain-breaks that will encourage you to look away from your screen and look after your noggin and our planet.
Who is frogs?
frogs was born in 2022, started by Emily. It's all about the seasonal beauty of our natural world. Nature gives us the blueprint for living slow and beautiful lives, and our busy society is at odds with that. Whilst I don't think buying flowers is going to change that for anyone, stopping to appreciate natural beauty and spending time looking for it is a form of mindfulness I can advocate for.
Flower frogs are reusable tools for arranging stems that preceded harmful floral foam. Frogs were also the least favourite, but most encountered, garden companion of my late-Granny who could often be heard shouting for help when "trapped" with a ribbiting pal. Queen of the Wind Up, I think she'd appreciate this little nod to her number one enemy!
Portobello, Edinburgh
We're based on the East Coast of Scotland, in the pretty perfect Porty. You can often find us popping up in local retailers and on the prom. Failing that, we might be at one of the many farmers and makers markets across Edinburgh of a weekend. Currently, our "studio" is the living room of my two-bed tenement but I've got grand plans so watch this space...
Packaging & branding
All of our printed packaging (business cards and stickers) come from The Little Green Paper Shop. Our business cards are embedded with wildflower seeds that you can grow, and the stickers are uncoated, woodfree paper made from sugarcane fibres, hemp and linen. Both are completely biodegradable. We use recyclable paper wraps and twine to secure designs. There's no floral foam or cellophane in the frog pond!
Suppliers & commitments
Our flowers all come from the UK. The global cut flower industry is hugely polluting and exploitative. It's not something we want to be part of and, instead, we support local flower farmers. We prioritise Scottish growers but to give us some variety and extend our season we work with growers UK-wide. Community & wellbeing
We want our arrangements, and the content we create, to act as a reminder to take a minute and to connect with nature.
frogs started life as a passion project, put on hold due to illness as a result of burnout. I was craving spending time outside but life kept getting in the way, until I got sick and was forced to slow down. frogs moves with the seasons, we all need to stop and smell the flowers now and again.
